Radio Liberty license extended

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - Russia's authorities have prolonged the license of Radio Liberty.

"Radio Liberty's license expires on July 3, and we have decided to extend it for another five years," First Deputy Press Minister Mikhail Seslavinsky told Interfax on Wednesday.

Yelena Rykovtseva, editor-in-chief of the Radio Liberty Moscow office, hailed the decision.

She told Interfax that "this decision is particularly welcome for us, as three weeks ago, we received a letter from the Press Ministry saying there was a candidate for our frequency. And although we received no warnings and believed that our license would be extended, some uncertainty remained."
