RUSSIAN POLITICAL SCIENTIST - RUSSIA-BELARUS UNION FIRST STEP TOWARDS RESTORING GREATER RUSSIA

MOSCOW, January 23, 2003. /From RIA Novosti corr./ - If on January 1, 2005 Russia and Belarus adopt a single monetary system, politically and historically this "will mean only one thing - a Greater Russia, which between 1922 and 1991 bore the name of the Soviet Union, has been restored". This is the view expressed in the columns of Rossiiskaya Gazeta by well-known Russian political scientist Vitaly Tretyakov.

According to him, Greater Russia is bound to rise again, because "only this restoration guarantees the observance of vital interests of the country and of the nation spread over CIS expanses".

In particular, Tretyakov says, this will ensure freedom, territorial integrity and independence for Russia, prevent other powers from dominating the territory of the former USSR and also preclude the formation in the world of coalitions hostile to Russia, local wars and large-scale armed conflicts in adjoining states.
