Opinion poll shows Russians worried at sharp drop in world oil prices
Interfax

Moscow, 6 December: The majority of Russians - 65 per cent - are convinced that Russia cannot get by without oil exports and only 20 per cent considers that the country would be able not to sell oil abroad. Most often, people with incomplete higher education (25 per cent) and rural dwellers (27 per cent) chose the last answer, the Public Opinion fund said today.

This information was received during a nationwide poll of 1,500 respondents in urban and rural settings.

The overwhelming majority of Russians knows about the sharp drop in world oil prices (82 per cent) in the recent past and is worried about this (59 per cent). Every second person polled (48 per cent) said that they follow price fluctuations, with most interest in the world oil market shown by men (56 per cent), residents of large cities (58 per cent) and people with higher education (63 per cent).

Russians have no doubt that the Russian budget depends on world prices for "black gold" (79 per cent) and that a drop in these prices would have a significant effect on the budget (75 per cent).

Among those that follow oil prices on the world markets, 80 per cent are worried about a drop in price and 88 per cent are certain that this would have a significant effect on the Russian economy.
