Russian citizens still waiting for efficient work by parliament

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - The number of Russian citizens who approve of the State Duma and Federation Council's work has slightly increased recently.

Eight percent of Russian citizens think that the Federation Council is working actively, adopting important laws and making important decisions. Only 5% were of this opinion a year ago.

Moreover, 9% of the Russian citizens think that the State Duma is doing a good job, against 5% last year.

These figures were obtained in opinion polls of 1,600 respondents held by the All-Russia Public Opinion Center at the end of November in 2001 and 2000.

Twenty-five percent of the respondents think that the Federation Council is debating important draft laws and decisions, against 21% last year. Concerning the State Duma the result was 31% to 23%.

The belief that the Federation Council is mostly engaged in empty debates and in disputes with the government is shared by 30% of the respondents (against 36% last year.) The same opinion was expressed with regards to the State Duma by 43% of those polled (as compared to 51% last year.)
