Russia investment abroad outstrips foreign investment at home
Interfax

Moscow, 30 November: The amount of investments made by Russian enterprises and organizations abroad continues to exceed the amount of foreign investments in Russia, the Russian Statistics Committee reported.

In January-September 2001, Russian investments abroad reached 13.42bn dollars, while foreign investment in Russia reached only 9.72bn dollars. In January-September 2000, Russian investments abroad totalled 11.52bn while foreign investment in Russia was 7.89bn dollars.

Russian investments abroad are usually short-term and therefore are quickly removed from other countries' economies and return to Russia. For this reason, by the beginning of October 2001 Russian capital abroad amounted to only 3.32bn dollars while the foreign capital accumulated in Russia was 34.42bn dollars.
