I was disappointed to learn of the confusion caused to U. S. viewers of InterTV (which does business under the name "NTV International") following the removal of NTV content from InterTV's broadcasts. On September 27, 2001, NTV announced that it was terminating its relationship with InterTV, due to constant and material defaults of obligations to NTV under its distribution agreement. Despite its name, NTV (Moscow) is not the operator of NTV International.

The new management of NTV is conscious of the fact that many distributors of Russian programming in the U.S. have a history of instability and of treating viewers poorly. This is largely due to the fact that such distributors have operated without the full legal support of the Russian television stations whose content they choose to re-broadcast and/or fail to pay for such content.

With the launch of NTV WORLD, NTV is establishing stable and reliable relationships with first-rate U.S. cable and satellite broadcasting companies to bring viewers the best and broadest selection of Russian television available in the U.S.

To be clear, NTV programming will no longer appear on any InterTV services. However, NTV WORLD will launch its broadcasting services in the near future and viewers should, to borrow a cliche, "stay tuned."

Yours truly,
Rafael Akopov
First Deputy General Director
NTV
