Russian TV programs begin to be shown in Georgia

TBILISI. Feb 11 (Interfax) - Programs on the First Channel of Russian television were shown in Georgia as a "test" on Wednesday evening after Georgia stopped relaying all Russian television channels and blocked access to Russian websites several months ago as an act of "information war against Russia," a company said.

"It is a test restoration of the broadcasting of the channel. Whether other Russian television channels that also have news programs on them will begin to be transmitted as well will be decided within the next two days," AWETI, a cable television company that relayed First Channel programs to the Georgian audience, told Interfax.

In September, Georgian cable television started relaying several Russian television channels that ran no news programs, and later on access was restored to .ru websites.

The Georgian government imposed its ban on the transmission of Russian television programs and access to Russian websites on August 9, a day after the war in Georgia broke out. Georgian State Minister for Reintegration Temur Iakobashvili argued at that time that an "information war against Russia" made the ban an essential move.
