Natural gas supply resumed to most Tskhinvali residents

TSKHINVALI. Feb 3 (Interfax) - The South Ossetian energy services are finishing operations to resume gas supply of Tskhinvali, said Alan Gabarayev, director of the South Ossetian state association Energetika.

"Gas supply has been restored in the greater part of Tskhinvali and to all socially significant facilities. The northern and western parts of the city have been fully provided with gas supply infrastructure. Energetika workers are currently working to restore gas supply to the southern part of the city," Gabarayev told Interfax on Tuesday.

The gas price for individuals will remain 4.18 rubles per cubic meter at least until the end of February, he said.

"Under a contract between Energetika and the company Itera Georgia, gas is being supplied to South Ossetia at 645 lari ($372) per 1,000 cubic meters. We have already paid for gas supplies in January," Gabarayev said.

"For half a year after the August aggression, the Georgian leadership has been playing political games by turning humanitarian issues into political ones and refusing to resume natural gas supplies to South Ossetia. However, thanks to international organizations' intervention in the entire Russian Federation, the people of South Ossetia finally received natural gas at the end of January," Gabarayev said.
