Russia reaffirms readiness to start US military cargo transits

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, 29 September: The timetable for starting the implementation of the Russian-American accords on the transit of military cargoes to Afghanistan depends on the USA, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said.

Russia is ready to start implementing the accords with the USA on the transit of military cargoes to Afghanistan, he told Interfax on Tuesday (29 September).

"As soon as the first request arrives, we will deal with it immediately," Ryabkov said. "We are ready (to start) even tomorrow. We have prepared everything. All the accords are in place."

Asked about the timetable for starting the implementation of the Russian-American agreement, Ryabkov said: "This is a question to the American side."

The accords on the transit through Russia of American military cargoes to Afghanistan was reached during President Barack Obama's visit to Moscow at the beginning of July.
