Tbilisi says it is committed to peaceful resolution of conflicts with Abkhazia, S. Ossetia

TBILISI. Aug 26 (Interfax) - The Georgian leadership remains
committed to the peaceful resolution of the conflicts in Abkhazia and
"the Tskhinvali region" and will unveil its strategy "with respect to
the occupied territories" in the next two months, Georgia's State
Minister for Reintegration Temur Yakobashvili said.

"The Georgian leadership remains committed solely to the peaceful
resolution of the conflicts, and is ready to open all doors to allow
people of all ethnicities who live in the occupied territories to get
medical services and other help. We will help them in every matter that
is not politicized," Yakobashvili said at a briefing on Wednesday.

He questioned the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"Today there is no sensible person in the occupied territories who would
believe himself now to be more independent than before the war last
year," the state minister said.

Russia will not be able to consolidate the current status of the
Caucasus territories, Yakobashvili said. "Russia cannot retain the
status quo with respect to the separatist regions," the state minister
said.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia
one year ago today.
