Over 80 per cent of Russians think Medvedev continuing Putin's policy - poll
Interfax

Moscow, 23 July: The absolute majority of Russian citizens (83 per cent) are convinced that Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev in his policy is continuing "exactly" or "in general" the course which was set by (former president and now prime minister) Vladimir Putin.

Ten per cent think that Medvedev is gradually changing the previous political course, and only 2 per cent say that he is pursuing a completely different policy.

This information was given to Interfax on Thursday (23 July) by Levada Centre sociologists who conducted an all-Russia poll on 17-20 July in 46 Russian regions.

According to the regular studies of the sociologists, Russians' opinion on these issues has only slightly changed over the last year.

Asked who, in their opinion, currently has real power in Russia, every second respondent (51 per cent) said that "both of them (Medvedev and Putin) have equal power", 32 per cent think that power belongs to Putin, and, according to the Levada Centre, the number of the supporters of this idea among those polled has decreased by 4 per cent since last July. The share of those who think that real power in Russia belongs to Medvedev is only 9 per cent.

Meanwhile, the sociologists have noted since May a gradual increase in the number of citizens who are convinced that Medvedev has started to pursue his own policy (from 19 to 21 per cent) and a decrease in the number of those who think that he is acting "under the control" of Putin (from 68 to 66 per cent).
