Public Chamber Supports Psychological Tests Of Prospective Civil Servants

MOSCOW. April 10 (Interfax) - The Russian Public Chamber has supported compulsory psychological tests of prospective civil servants, but opposed the introduction of polygraph tests.

"Psychological tests must be compulsory for prospective civil servants, especially for judges, law enforcement officiers and bureaucrats distributing material resources," head of the Public Chamber's Commission for Control over Law Enforcers and Court and Legal Reform, lawyer Anatoly Kucherena told Interfax on Thursday.

At the same time, Kucherena said he opposed polygraph tests of prospective judges and civil servants. "This toy fails to give correct answers sometimes. Besides, it can hardly expose delicate psychological motivations of candidates," he said.

"The tests will show the degree of psychological preparedness of prospective judges, prosecutors and traffic police officers for honest and scrupulous service. It is very important to learn their real motivation: whether a person seeks civil service for serving his motherland and fulfilling his duty or just wants to make money," Kucherena said.
