Medvedev submits anti-corruption package to Duma

MOSCOW. Oct 3 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has submitted a set of bills aimed at assisting the country's crackdown on corruption to the State Duma, a spokesman for the chamber's executive office told Interfax on Friday.

The documents are currently undergoing registration, after which they will be forwarded to the State Duma speaker.

The State Duma plans to debate the bills proposed by the president as a priority. They are expected to be forwarded to the chamber's specialized committees today, the spokesman said.

Presidential chief-of-staff Sergei Naryshkin told journalists earlier that the anti-corruption package includes four bills, which primarily deal with a basic bill on the fight against corruption and a federal constitutional law, which amends the law on the government.

"Another two bills with a long title have been drafted. They introduce amendments to 25 federal laws," he said. The documents that will be amended include an investigation law, he said.

The bills say that both private individuals and legal entities can face prosecution for corruption-related crimes, Naryshkin said. The documents also envision a two-year moratorium on civil servants' transfer to commercial organizations with which they had contacts during their work at government bodies.

According to the bills, the prime minister, his deputies, federal ministers and their family members will be required to declare their incomes and assets.

State Duma officials said earlier that the chamber can pass the anti-corruption bills in November.
