Subject: My response to Hahn's response/  JRL#177 [re: Russo-Georgian war]

Professor Hahn claims I don't get it. He is above all keen to prove, in his words, that "The Georgians are no less responsible than the Russians - that's my point. " That point is precisely what I, and most others who study what happened in Georgia (or Russia, for that matter), don't quite get, because it fits few facts except those selectively chosen by Professor Hahn . I invite readers to look at our exchanges over the past few days, as well as the posts of other informed observers such as Lt Col Robert Hamilton, and make up their own minds as to who is closer to the truth here: the distinguished Professor or the PR man.

I wish to join Professor Hahn wholeheartedly in one key point: I, too, "will be interested in history's final judgement". I and the Georgian leadership just happen to have had to deal with Russia's mounting preparations for war for many months now, unlike commentators who divide their time between Berkeley and St Petersburg. We know enough to await history's judgement with confidence. Hence, as I stated before, the Georgian Government's repeated calls that an impartial, international investigative commission be seized of this matter.
