Most Russians happy with Medvedev's work, Putin still more influential - poll

Moscow, 24 July: Russians think highly of the work of Russian President Dmitriy Medevedev - 70 per cent of citizens are pleased on the whole with his work in the highest state post, sociologists from "Levada-Tsentr" have told Interfax according to the results of a poll conducted 18-22 July.

At the same time, according to their data, 36 per cent of Russians expressed their confidence in the president.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin remains, as before, the most influential Russian politician at the present time - 54 per cent of citizens trust him, and 80 per cent of those polled are happy with his work as prime minister.

According to the results of the poll, head of Emergencies Ministry Sergey Shoygu also entered the 10 most popular Russian politicians of July (16 per cent of those polled expressed confidence in him), along with Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov (10 per cent), leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Zhirinovskiy and Communist Party leader Gennadiy Zyuganov (both 9 per cent), Moscow Mayor Yuriy Luzhkov (7 percent), St Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko (6 per cent), First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov (5 per cent) and Head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yevgeniy Primakov (4 per cent).

At the present time, 13 per cent of respondents do not trust any Russian politicians.

According to Levada-Tsentr's data, in July 57 per cent of Russians considered the government's work on the whole effective (compared with 63 per cent in June), 36 per cent of respondents evaluate it critically (32 per cent (in June)), the sociologists told Interfax.
