Russia Wishes To Use U.S. Practice In Future National Elections

MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax) - Russia would like to copy U.S. election practice, Central Elections Commission member Igor Borisov told a press conference at the Interfax main office on Thursday.

"We will go there (to watch the U.S. presidential election) to study election best practice, so that we do not repeat mistakes here, in the Russian Federation," he said.

"Our elections commission does not want to bring democratic order worldwide, as representatives and leaders of some states do," he said.

The Russian delegation will study the U.S. electronic vote and "evaluate pros and cons of their polling stations," he said.

"If our representatives become members of an international election observation mission, including that of the OSCE, they will do their job professionally," Borisov said.

A commission delegation will visit the United States in November, during the presidential election, Central Elections Commission Chairman Vladimir Churov said on Wednesday.

"We have received an invitation and are preparing for the visit," he said.

"Our attitude is purely professional: we are interested in voting details," Churov said.
