Russia, Japan can settle border dispute - Medvedev

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said that while Moscow and Tokyo are quite capable of making a deal on the border dispute between the two countries and signing a relevant agreement, he did not to expect any miracles.

"It seems to me that the main thing is, on the one hand, not to wait for some miracle, and, on the other, to work in a friendly manner. And in that case we will have opportunities to settle this problem," Medvedev said in an interview with the media from the G8 countries.

"There is actually one issue that we have so far failed to agree upon - it is a border issue and the signing of a related agreement," he said.

"I think that, first of all, we should not dramatize this situation. We must move forward, discuss this issue in accordance with the declarations that were made earlier, we should not expect to obtain maximum results within a short period of time, because most likely this is not possible, but we must discuss openly both the ideas that already exist and the ideas that are forthcoming," Medvedev said.
