Shuvalov calls himself liberal-conservative

MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax) - Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov has said he holds a combined liberal-conservative view on the country's development.

"I am simultaneously a liberal and a conservative, as one may put it," Shuvalov said in an interview for the Fifth Studio program hosted by Sergei Brilyov, excerpts from which were broadcast on Vesti-24 television on Thursday.

"I stick to traditional viewpoints, defend traditional viewpoints and think that a successful society is when we remember our roots and defend them. But at the same time, the spirit of freedom forming the basis of any liberal course is also inherent in me," the first deputy prime minister said.
