Level Of Trust In Russian Companies Extremely Low Abroad - Report

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The level of trust in Russian companies is extremely low abroad, says a report by the Edelman international company unveiled at the Russian State Duma on Tuesday.

"The level of trust in Russia remains very low abroad, and the current mechanisms and methods used to prop it up by Russian national corporations operating on foreign markets fall short of foreign audiences' expectations and are not sufficiently effective," the company said following a large-scale study, named the Trust Barometer.

The poll involved economically and socially active respondents aged from 35.

Only 18% and 44% of respondents polled in industrialized and developing countries, respectively, said Russian corporation could be trusted. Trust in Russian gas major Gazprom (RTS: GAZP) is high only in Russia - 67%. It is 48% in China and 5% in the United Kingdom. Inside Russia 39% of those surveyed said they mostly trust businesses, and this reflects trends typical of emerging economies. But in industrialized countries respondents demonstrated greater trust in nongovernmental organizations - 50% in the European Union and 57% in North America. In Russia trust in nongovernmental organizations stands at 27%.
