Georgia Ready For War If Russia Recognizes Abkhazia - Official
TBILISI. Nov 13 (Interfax) - If Russia recognizes Abkhazia's independence, Tbilisi will consider this an act of war, chairman of the Georgian Defense and National Security Committee Givi Targamadze has said.
"If Russia recognizes Abkhaz independence, this will by default mean that Russia has declared war on Georgia. The move will be thought of in this way, because Russia has already begun to deploy additional troops and arms in Abkhazia," Targamadze told journalists on Tuesday, commenting on statements by some Russian politicians on the status of Abkhazia.
"Georgia will meet this challenge and will not allow Russia to encroach on its territorial integrity and sovereignty," he said.
Georgian parliamentary speaker Nino Burjanadze ordered parliamentary commissions to inform relevant international organizations about illegal actions made by Russia, which had allegedly deployed additional troops and arms in Abkhazia.
Russia military and Abkhaz authorities said earlier that Georgian reports that "Russian troops were deployed in Georgia" are an act of provocation and speculations.
