Putin: Corruption Blocking Russia's Competitive Economy
MOSCOW. Nov 10 (Interfax) - Corruption and economic crimes hinder Russia's development and the creation of a competitive economy in the country, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a solemn reception dedicated to the Police Day in Russia.
"People wait for new police successes in countering economic crimes and corruption. This is not only Russia's business activity that these 'social tumors' impedes," the president said.
Corruption and economic crimes hinder the civilized development of the country, the creation of a competitive economy, and the freedom of entrepreneurship, he said.
"In fact, they (these crimes) is an obstacle to a higher welfare level of Russians and to Russia's development," Putin said.
The Russian president is certain that law enforcement agencies' activity to counter lawlessness and corruption should rest on society, "should listen to its voice and be transparent and open to citizens of the country," Putin said.
