Putin's leadership of One Russia leads to two-party system - Communist leader
Interfax

Moscow, 1 October: The decision by (President) Vladimir Putin to head the party list of One Russia will lead to a real two-party system in the country, the leader of Russian Communists, Gennadiy Zyuganov, has said.

"Putin's decision to head One Russia is the confirmation of a real two-party system in the country: on the left flank there is the CPRF (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) and on the right flank there is One Russia," Zyuganov said in a statement published on the CPRF website.

The creation of the two-party system, he thought, "was hindered for all these years by the many faces of the masks of the party of power". "The current Russian two-party system is such - on the left flank there is the CPRF and on the right flank One Russia. This is the political reality of the present moment. And it is this reality that will define the entire progress and outcome of the elections," the statement says.

"The time of legends in Russian politics has ended. And today it is perfectly obvious that the party of power has chosen for itself the main political mask - One Russia. This was done when the cover operation - the 'Unshaven Socialism (REFERENCE to Mironov's Just Russia)' failed," Zyuganov said.

In his view, Putin's decision to force Just Russia and the party leader Sergey Mironov "to get involved in a fight against Vladimir Putin, who headed his main competitor."

"For him (Mironov - Interfax) this is a suicide. However, Just Russia has no other option. The LDPR (Liberal Democratic Party of Russia) and (Vladimir) Zhirinovskiy are in a similar position," Zyuganov suggested.
