Vladimir Churov on Putin's consent to lead United Russia party ticket: "The law allows doing it"

On October 2, the Russian Central Election Commission certified federal party tickets of candidates to the Russian State Duma from three parties: the Agrarian Party, the SPS (Union of Right Forces) and the Communist Party (CPRF). Chair of the Central Election Commission Vladimir Churov commented on results of the CEC session.

A REGNUM correspondent quotes Churov as saying that overall, party lists of eight parties have been certified by now, and by October 5, lists of rest parties are to be certified. According to Churov, no groos mistakes or uncertainties have been registered in the lists yet.

The CEC chair also commented on his attitude to yesterday's sensational statement by President Vladimir Putin who agreed to lead the United Russia federal party ticket (the party is conducting its congress on October 1-2). "The law allows doing it," Churov stressed. "Any Russian citizen after become a 21-year-old can be nominated as a candidate."

Besides, Churov answered a question about address of the Other Russia (Drugaya Rossiya) Party activists, who handed over documents for their candidates from the opposition coalition. "We did not take documents from the Other Russia, we took applications from Russian citizens in accordance with the law. Many of such applications are brought to us every week. For instance, some time ago, we received an application from citizen Romanova, resident of Tver Region, who is calling herself the empress," the CEC chair noted.
