Zubkov Against Censorship On TV

MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) - Russian TV channels will not be censored, Viktor Zubkov, a candidate for the office of Russian prime minister, said.

"Of course, we will not introduce censorship. This should not be done," Zubkov said in the State Duma on Friday.

Zubkov, however, admitted that today there is a lot of violence and cruelty on Russian TV channels.

"There is the law concerning mass media, there are federal services which should control and survey its enforcement. We will instruct them to analyze all of the things the MP was speaking about," Zubkov said.

"We have interesting TV (programs), a lot of good things are broadcast. But I agree with you that there are quite a lot of things you spoke about: violence, cruelty and immorality. This all can be seen on our TV channels today. This is not likely to be right," Zubkov said.

Zubkov also said that he is going to cooperate with various political forces in a constructive manner. However, he did not comment on his plans to join any party.

"If you elect me to the office of prime minister I will focus on the socio-economic tasks the government faces. I am ready to work with all parties, including the Communist Party, United Russia, Fair Russia and LDPR in a constructive manner. There will be no problems. But I should focus on my main job," Zubkov said.
