Yavlinsky Thinks Yabloko May Do Well In Duma Vote

MOSCOW. Sept 9 (Interfax) - Grigory Yavlinsky, leader of the Yabloko party, believes his party may do quite well in the coming elections to the State Duma.

"It may happen so that we will demonstrate a very good result," he said at a Friday conference of the Moscow chapter of the party, an Interfax correspondent reports.

"There is public demand for a policy that would offer an alternative to the course which the country is taking. The program with which Yabloko will be running in the elections and called Seven Steps to Equal Opportunities is offering such an alternative," he said.

The public hopes that first socialism would solve all the problems, then that capitalism would resolve all the problem and finally that Putin would resolve all the problems have not materialized, Yavlinsky said.

In his opinion, "the actual returns of the party may be twice the officially stated size."

He said that the party will not conduct a campaign of collecting petitions but pledge 60 million rubles to qualify for participation in the elections.
