No Militants Will Be Left In Chechnya By End Of 2007 - Kadyrov

TSENTOROI, Chechnya. Aug 3 (Interfax) - There will be no militants left in Chechnya by the end of 2007, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov said.

"I am telling you with all my responsibility that the problem of the remnants of illegal armed units will be fully resolved by the end of the year. Not a single militant, or, as we call them, shaytan, will remain in Chechnya," Kadyrov said at an unveiling ceremony of a cadet corps in Tsentoroi on Friday.

"There are not many of them. Those who remain have still to realize the changes that have occurred in the republic and have a mindset stuck in the mid-1990s. Either they will come to law enforcement agencies, or they face extermination," Kadyrov said.

"If they come to their senses and face trial, they will be given the punishment that they deserve. After serving this sentence, they will have the chance to return home to their families. If they don't accept this option, militants will face extermination in the course of special operations. Chechen law enforcement agencies have enough experience and resources for this," he said.

Kadyrov called on "those who are still hiding in the forest" to immediately contact law enforcement agencies. "I would like to stress once again that this is the best option for them," he said.
