Gabala Radar's Environmental Effect Calls For More Thorough Research - Azeri Academy Of Sciences Head
BAKU. June 12 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences President Mahmud Kerimov has described as premature conclusions by a number of specialists alleging that the Gabala radar station leased by Russia negatively affects the environment and human health.
Several commissions comprised of environmentalists, medical experts, physicists, and other specialists examined the Gabala radar's influence on the environment several years ago, Kerimov told Interfax.
"Some found certain indirect signs indicating that the station caused certain damage. Other specialists argued that those were unconfirmed data, and more accurate conclusions could be made following long-term comprehensive research," Kerimov said.
"Frankly speaking, it is difficult to talk about damage now, because it is necessary first to do more thorough and systematic research," he said.
