Putin's aide says radical change in economic development policy needed
Interfax

Moscow, 6 June: Russia needs a radical change in its economic development policy, a shift towards innovative technologies, the deputy head of the Presidential Administration, Vladislav Surkov, has said.

"It seems to me that we do not quite realize the need for a radical change in the social paradigm because an innovative economy means a different civilization, completely different economic principles," said Vladislav Surkov who, together with First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Sergey Ivanov, met members of youth movements on Wednesday (6 June).

Vladimir Surkov thinks that many decisions continue to reflect the logic of last century's industrial economy.

He said that the task of switching to an innovative economy was comparable to what "Pyotr (Tsar Peter I) and the Bolsheviks were during". He noted that the ways of transformation should, of course, be different.

Vladislav Surkov reminded the attendees that Sergey Ivanov was at the forefront of these efforts and wished him success.

"Now, after Sergey Borisovich's (Ivanov) speech, I know more about sovereign democracy," said Vladislav Surkov.
