Yabloko Party Activist And Writer Piontkovsky Summoned To Prosecutor's Office

MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - Andrei Piontkovsky, a prominent Russian commentator and a member of the Yabloko party, was summoned to the Zamoskvorechye prosecutor's office in Moscow on Thursday, Yabloko press secretary Yevgenia Dillendorf told Interfax.

"Moscow authorities asked Andrei Piontkovsky to report on May 31 to provide explanations regarding his articles. A letter on this account came from the Zamoskvorechye inter-district prosecutor," Dillendorf said.

The Krasnodar branch of the Yabloko party was notified on Wednesday that it would have to undergo an extraordinary inspection to find out whether its activities complies with the law On Countering Extremist Activities, she said.

"Piontkovsky cannot report, because he is currently doing research at the Hudson Institute in Washington, of which his relatives told the prosecutor's office," she said. Interfax could not immediately obtain confirmation of the information from the Moscow prosecutor's office.
