Rosregistratsiya Denies Accusations Of Repression Against Parties

MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - The Russian Supreme Court has disbanded 12 political parties at the request of Rosregistratsiya.

"A total of 12 claims to disband parties have been filed. The claims were granted," Galina Fokina, a representative of Rosregistratsiya, said.

The list of parties disbanded for violation of the law on political parties include the Russian Republican Party, the Social and Democratic Party, the Communist Party of Russian Workers, the Russian People's Patriotic Party and others.

"The appeals board of the Supreme Court received five appeals from the disbanded parties. They will be studied," Fokina said.

One of the arguments of all 12 parties is that "they are being repressed," she said.

"There have been no repressions or orders. We proceed from the provisions of the law," she said.

The Russian Supreme Court has upheld rulings disbanding the Russian Republican Party in Thursday.
