Siberian court refuses to hear Khodorkovskiy's appeal
Interfax
May 16, 2007

The Chita Region court has cancelled the hearing of a appeal made by Mikhail Khodorkovskiy's lawyers about the extension of his imprisonment in the Chita detention centre, Interfax news agency said on 16 May. "The court hearing was scheduled for 17 May. The hearing of the appeal was removed from the schedule and postponed indefinitely. I have not been given an official reason so far," lawyer Semyon Rozenberg told Interfax-Sibir news agency.

The prison term for former Yukos head Khodorkovskiy and former Menatep head Platon Lebedev was extended until 2 July 2007.

On 16 April the Moscow City Court upheld the ruling that an investigatory procedure in their new case had been held in Chita illegally.

Khodorkovskiy and Lebedev were sent from the colonies where they served their 8-year term to Chita in mid-December 2006.

The lawyer said that Khodorkovskiy had recently had a meeting with his wife and daughter in the Chita detention centre. "The meeting was a short one. His wife Inna and his daughter flew to Chita on Tuesday," Rozenberg added. After the meeting they left for Moscow, Rozenberg said.
