Yanukovych's Party Leading Race For Parliament - Poll

KYIV. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Opinion polls continue to show the Party of Regions led by former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych with a strong lead over all other parties and blocs running for seats in the country's parliament.

Twenty-two percent of Ukrainian citizens interviewed as part of the Ukrainian Institute of Social and Political Psychology's January 20-27 poll said they would vote for the Yanukovych-led party if the country's parliamentary elections were held today.

Yulia Tymoshenko's bloc was supported by 14.7% of respondents; the Our Ukraine bloc, by 13.8%; the Socialist Party, by 6%; Lytvyn's Popular Bloc, by 5.8%; and the Communist Party, by 5.4%.

A total of 2.8% of those polled spoke in favor of the Pora-PRP bloc, 2.5% referred to Natalia Vitrenko's Popular Opposition bloc, 1.9% mentioned the Kostenko-Plyushch bloc, 1.7% named the Ne Tak! opposition bloc, and 1.4% supported the Svoboda (Freedom) nationwide movement.

The public opinion survey was conducted in 334 towns and villages and involved 2,000 people, age 18 and above. The margin of error is 2.4%.
