Mironov remains opposed to third presidential term for Putin

MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Leader of Russia's Party of Life and Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov believes a party-affiliated president could be elected in Russia in 2008.

"Thus far we have not come to the understanding that the president should be affiliated to a political party," Mironov said in an interview with Interfax.

The head of state was elected by all citizens when the political field was totally different from how it is now, he said.

The president himself is in no haste to take charge of any party, which is the absolutely correct position, although in 2008 a president affiliated to a party will probably be elected, he said.

Mironov confirmed that he does not support the idea of amending the constitution with respect to a third presidential term.
